"You have heard...But I tell you..."

This is my time in the Occupied West Bank this summer. It's my medium of processing and recording what I am witnessing and observing. I am realizing that there is a lot that I have heard and been taught which does not line up with the reality I am experiencing. My internet access is sporadic at best, but I'll try be faithful and pray you will be too. If you have any comments, questions or want to hear more email me at juliainpalestine@gmail.com I'd love to hear from you!

Random Excerpts From My Journal…

- “I’ve heard ‘It’s raining men’ twice now. Once inside the wall and once outside the wall in Israel. I wonder if it’s prophetic…”

-“It’s been 115-120 degrees here in the days. Walking in this heat actually makes you nauseated…”

-“At night I’ve started hanging out with a group of nuns from the local Catholic church. Like everyone else here in Palestine, they force feed you until you are going to burst and then send you to the store for more food. Their church is under renovation so we sit outside under the dark canopy of evening, eating jalapeno pringles and laughing at my pathetic attempts to crack nuts with a knife…”

-“In the past three days I’ve met 2 other Palestinians who have vitiligo- an autoimmune disease that kills your tanning cells so your skin looks painted white. Worldwide, it’s an instant bond…”

-“Sometimes I wish I could record the smell. Rather than take photos that people might quickly glance at, let them experience the only world these kids in refugee camps have known. Growing up with 35,000 people in a 2km area, there is no fresh air here…”
